Description

This practical, activity-based workshop will build the knowledge and confidence of nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners and General Practitioners working in primary health care services across the Northern Territory.
Participants will explore:
-when and why a PFK or EEK may be used
-practical approaches to responding appropriately to disclosures of sexual violence
-common myths and societal attitudes relating to gender-based and sexual violence
-current sexual and domestic, family and sexual violence statistics
-the crisis support and holistic care available through Sexual Assault Referral Centre services in the Northern Territory.

The session will also clarify Northern Territory referral and care pathways for clients who disclose sexual assault, with additional resources provided to participants.
The workshop will be delivered by three members of the Sexual Assault Referral Centre team: a counsellor, nurse and doctor.

“Please be aware speakers will be delivering educational content that relates to topics of family and sexual violence. Support from a SARC counsellor as / if needed will be available on the day”
