Description

Australian men experience disproportionately high rates of preventable illness and premature death. Many care deeply about their health but don't always engage in the ways our systems expect. In the NT, the burden of disease is higher than the national rate, and the cost of a missed consultation can be critical.

The Movember institute is working to build practitioner capacity for gender-responsive care. Informed by research and men's lived experience, we present the adaptation of men in mind for primary care from our mental health training program, supporting engagement with men in a short clinical window.

Drawing on prototype results from practitioners across Australia, we'll share what worked and reflect on the adaptation ahead: shaping the training to reflect the intersection of masculinities experienced by aboriginal and torres strait islander men and boys.

Attendees will leave with a new perspective on engaging men and keeping them connected.
