Description

The future of nursing in the Territory depends not only on attracting more nurses, but on preparing, supporting and retaining a workforce that is clinically capable, culturally safe, connected to community and able to thrive in complex rural and remote practice.

Following a review of nursing workforce data, the session will explore practical, system-level solutions for a sustainable NT nursing workforce, drawing on perspectives from workforce planning, university education, professional leadership and frontline clinical supervision. Across the NT, nurses are often the most consistent clinical presence, working with considerable autonomy across primary health care, emergency response, chronic disease, prevention and care coordination. The discussion will focus on how to build a workforce prepared for remote practice, well supported in their roles, and able to see a long-term future in the Territory.

Following short presentations, the panel will explore key priorities, opportunities and the change needed for the next generation of the nursing workforce.
