Description

Since the introduction of shared medical appointments (SMAs) in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) in the NT, services have continued to strengthen the model to meet local community needs.

This presentation will provide an update on the evolutions emerging through the SMA Community of Practice. Presenters from participating ACCHOs will share practical examples of culturally responsive approaches, including Medical Yarn-ups and Medical Dhäwu Dhäwu, demonstrating how SMA’s support chronic disease engagement, peer learning, multidisciplinary collaboration and workforce development. Attendees will gain insight into how community-led models are being sustained across urban, regional and remote settings, strengthening peer learning, chronic disease self-management, and culturally responsive care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
